Extreme Tech Challenge Appoints Emmy Award-winner Kym McNicholas as Executive Director

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Extreme Tech Challenge (XTC), the first start-up competition in conjunction with the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), today announced that Kym McNicholas will join the team as Executive Director. Effective today, McNicholas will oversee all operations of the contest, including the recruitment of top technology leaders to serve on the newly established XTC Advisory Council - current members include Loïc Le Meur, angel investor and serial entrepreneur who founded LeWeb; Othman Laraki, angel investor, founder of Color Genomics, and ex-VP of Product at Twitter; and Robert Scoble, startup liaison officer at Rackspace.

McNicholas is an Emmy Award-winning journalist with more than 15 years’ experience in media. McNicholas will apply critical knowledge of technology trends to her role after spending the last five years immersed in the technology as a journalist, the majority of which was at Forbes. As a member of MaiTai global, the gathering of entrepreneurs, innovators and athletes who contribute their energy to a shared experience centered on the kiteboarding lifestyle, McNicholas is passionate about extreme sports having been a professional and competition water skier and was the first female sports director and anchor in the San Francisco Bay Area.

McNicholas will oversee all aspects of the competition including spearheading the program’s advisory council. Members of the advisory council have an extensive background in technology and a keen eye for talented applicants. The enrollment process for council members is currently open and new members will join the likes of Le Meur, Laraki, and Scoble. McNicholas will also serve as the liaison between XTC and its renowned sponsors including Samsung, Virgin, IBM, Amazon Web Services and more.
